[2026-10] SuperX Newsletter

Enhanced Resolution with SIA’s Super-Resolution Technology!

SuperX is an innovative solution that integrates advanced deep learning based super-resolution and denoising AI models into satellite imagery. By fundamentally overcoming the inherent limitations of traditional satellite images, SuperX upscales low-resolution images.

Lima is a city of dense contrasts — commercial text painted directly onto pavement, informal markets that spill across entire blocks, century-old civic landmarks, and traffic circles carrying thousands of vehicles a day. In this issue, we follow SuperX across four distinct urban surfaces in a single city, each testing a different aspect of resolution and identification.

STEP 1. Signage & Marking Resolution — Gamarra Textile District

In Lima’s Gamarra garment district (La Victoria), commercial branding is painted directly onto the street surface rather than displayed on signage — a local practice for maximizing visibility in a space with no room for billboards. SuperX resolves this ground-level text clearly enough to read individual brand names painted across the pavement, alongside dense curb-to-curb vehicle traffic navigating the corridor.

This is the same capability that translates to reading ground markings, taxiway or apron stenciling, and unit or lot identifiers painted directly on surfaces — details that standard-resolution EO imagery typically renders illegible.

STEP 2. Density Estimation Under Cover — Urban Market District

A dense informal market district in central Lima, where hundreds of vendor umbrellas in saturated reds, oranges, and blues almost entirely obscure the street and building lines beneath them. SuperX resolves individual umbrella units and the traffic congestion bleeding into the adjacent roadway, even where canopy cover would otherwise mask activity below.

Operationally, this maps to estimating activity and density beneath canopy or camouflage cover — a recurring challenge in monitoring informal markets, refugee or IDP settlements, and covered staging areas.

STEP 3. Landmark Structure Identification — Anfiteatro del Parque de la Exposición

Lima’s Anfiteatro del Parque de la Exposición presents a very different analytical target: a curved, tiered open-air amphitheater set within a historic park, framed by a lake, gardens, and a major arterial roadway running alongside. SuperX resolves the seating tiers, stage geometry, and an active construction or maintenance excavation near the venue’s edge, distinct from the organic park terrain around it.

This capability directly supports landmark and facility characterization for reconnaissance planning, where distinguishing curved or complex architectural geometry from natural terrain is essential for accurate site identification.

STEP 4. Traffic Infrastructure Monitoring — Plaza Dos de Mayo

Plaza Dos de Mayo, one of Lima’s principal traffic circles, channels vehicle flow from multiple radiating avenues around a central monument and garden. SuperX resolves individual vehicles queued around the full circumference of the roundabout, along with lane markings and crosswalk patterns at each entry point — enough detail to assess congestion distribution around the junction rather than just its presence.

This is the same analytical task as monitoring chokepoints and multi-road junctions for congestion, throughput, or anomalous vehicle buildup at strategically significant transportation hubs.

One City, Four Surfaces

Painted pavement, a canopy-covered market, a curved historic landmark, and a multi-road traffic circle — four completely different analytical challenges, resolved from the same satellite platform over the same city. The range illustrates a core strength of SuperX: it doesn’t specialize in one type of target. It adapts across scale, material, and structure within a single pass.

Capabilities demonstrated by SuperX in this issue:

  • Ground-level text and marking resolution
  • Density estimation beneath canopy or cover
  • Landmark and facility structural characterization
  • Traffic chokepoint and junction monitoring
  • Multi-target analysis across a single satellite pass

SuperX doesn’t just sharpen pixels — it helps responders see clearly when it matters most.
