N.K – Russia Vehicle Bridge Progress Update #11: North Korea and Russia: Finally connected by Land ― Apr 22, 2026

In North Korea’s Tumengang region, while North Korean weapon exports to Russia and Russian coal imports have reportedly been suspended, the import of Russian fuel continues despite UN sanctions. Furthermore, a formal ceremony was recently held to mark the official connection of the bridge between the two nations, which has been under construction. It is anticipated that the official opening will be possible on June 19, coinciding with the second anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty.

As the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized via VTC during the recent ceremony, stating that this is not merely a bridge but a new artery for exchange, the bridge stands as a symbol of the North Korea-Russia alliance. It is expected to serve as a core corridor for neutralizing UN sanctions against North Korea. This development is projected to lead to deeper military cooperation, ultimately shifting the balance of power in Northeast Asia. Furthermore, as North Korea’s dependence on China weakens, the likelihood of military adventurism is expected to grow. Consequently, there is an urgent need for thorough preparation through multilateral security cooperation.
