N.K – Russia Vehicle Bridge Progress Update #3 : China’s Monitoring of N.K-Russia Bridge Construction ― July 10, 2025

The road bridge currently under construction in the North Korea–Russia border region is progressing normally, with North Korea focusing on building new structures and Russia concentrating on road construction, as both sides prepare for bridgework over the Tumen River. On the Chinese side, multiple patrol boats have been deployed as far as the southernmost point of the border—an unusual development compared to the typical deployment of only one or two boats for routine anti-narcotics patrols near North Korea. This expanded presence is believed to be part of surveillance activities related to the North Korea–Russia bridge construction.  Currently, train activity at the Tumengang–Khasan Station area has significantly decreased since April. It remains to be determined whether this is due to an actual decline in Russian fuel support and coal exports, or if alternative methods are being used—such as nighttime transportation. Continued monitoring is necessary to clarify the situation.
