While North Korea has kept its borders closed due to COVID-19 since January 2020, satellite images of the Sinuiju-Dandong region, which accounts for 70 percent of North Korea-China trade, were analyzed using artificial intelligence (AI), indicating that the country has strengthened its quarantine activities at the national level by converting the Uiju Airfield, a military facility, into a quarantine facility in 2022, allowing trade by railway and continuing to prohibit vehicle traffic.
