The second Choi Hyun-class warship, which North Korea built with Russian support, was damaged during its launch from the construction facility into the sea. This incident appears to stem from complacency arising from a series of successful weapons system developments, insufficient preparation, and technical limitations. Consequently, a large-scale purge of officials from the Chongjin Shipyard and the Academy of National Defense Science is expected to be carried out. Also considering the damage to this warship’s hull, it is presumed that internal flooding occurred. This suggests the possibility of significant damage, or even that the vessel may need to be scrapped.
