Recently, wastewater has been continuously discharged from the Pyongsan Uranium Refinery, which indicates that North Korea is continuing to operate its nuclear facilities. However, since the waste is a byproduct of refining natural uranium, the immediate risk posed by its discharge into the sea appears to be low. Nevertheless, long-term discharge could lead to environmental problems, and it would be necessary to take appropriate measures—such as cooperating with the international community and placing the site under IAEA monitoring.
