A large fire recently broke out in Sinuiju. The fact that it is not being shared on major Chinese media or social media appears to be because the affected building is the North Pyongan Provincial Committee of the Workers’ Party, suggesting they quickly cooperated with the Chinese side to block the information spread.

In particular, the North Pyongan provincial party secretary is a figure directly appointed by Kim Jong Un on-site after his predecessor was dismissed for negligence. Kim Jong Un has been visiting Sinuiju every month since August. In fact, as recently as November 26, Kim Jong Un visited Wihwa-Do and expressed satisfaction with the greenhouse farm construction. Given that the fire broke out at the provincial party headquarters just 10 days after this visit, it appears that authorities are moving quickly to clean up the scene and cover up the incident.
