Sinuiju Update : While trade between N.K. and China is Stable, the Opening New Bridge remains Premature ― July 25, 2025

Recent trade activities between North Korea and China in the Sinuiju area appear to be proceeding normally. However, construction of support facilities for the new Yalu River Bridge in the southern part of Sinuiju seems to be progressing slowly, rather than being carried out with North Korea’s typical “speed campaign” style. This suggests that the North Korean leadership has little objection to continuing the use of the existing Sino–Korean Friendship Bridge (Dandong–Sinuiju Bridge), which handles 70% of North Korea–China trade. Despite China’s eagerness, the opening of the new Yalu River Bridge is likely to take more time.

Meanwhile, in the northern part of Sinuiju, a recently built railway line – including two railroad bridges constructed less than a year ago – was dismantled and is now being rebuilt 600 meters to the north. This is a prime example of inefficiency, yet such actions are frequently observed at construction sites in North Korea and are no longer surprising. Additionally, at Uiju Airfield, preparations for bomber flight activities have been observed, like the large-scale parade preparations underway at Mirim Airfield near Pyongyang for the upcoming October 10 event.
