Strengthening North Korea’s Solid-propellant Ballistic Missile Production―May 22, 2026

The Ryongsong Machinery Plant, which underwent renovations and held a completion ceremony attended by Kim Jong Un last January, has recently begun construction on related parts and semi-finished product factories. Consequently, it is anticipated that full functionality will be limited for a significant period. Additionally, there is a possibility of expansion at ballistic missile solid-engine production facilities. This is expected to enhance the production of solid-propellant ballistic missiles, such as SRBM, SLBMs and ICBMs, which ensure survivability through short launch preparation times and easy concealed movement. Also, this is expected to place a significant burden on the missile defense systems of the ROK-U.S. combined forces.
